What Do Satanists Fear?

“There has never been a spiritual awakening in any country or locality that did not begin in united prayer.”—A.T. Pierson

Samuel Chadwick said, “The one concern of the devil is to keep Christians from praying. He fears nothing from prayerless studies, prayerless work, and prayerless religion. He laughs at our toil, mocks at our wisdom, but trembles when we pray.” The imagery is fascinating.

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines “tremble” as to shake involuntarily; to be affected with great fear or anxiety. I believe Chadwick is correct. The devil shakes and trembles at our praying. Imagine it. Every time we go to the Lord in prayer, the devil gets extremely nervous and stressed to the point of trembling! No wonder he tries to disrupt our prayer life. He fears an effective, praying person more than anything on earth.

I recall a testimony of a leading pastor who told an interesting story about the power of prayer. Years ago a youth pastor at a large church along with his ministerial team had been witnessing to a satanist and eventually led him to the Lord. The life change was dramatic and after a while the youth pastor sat down and asked the former satanist a few questions. One of which was, “As a Satanist, what did you fear the most about Christians?”

His reply was quick and to the point. “We have seen what is accomplished when they pray. The response in the spiritual is very significant when a believer prays in the Spirit. We (as satanists) tried our best to prevent and discourage it at all costs.”

Why do satanists fear when God’s people pray in tongues? For starters, the believer is praying for the perfect will of God to be accomplished and evil despises the harm that comes to their kingdom as a result.

Interestingly, another satanist revealed something similar, “We fear churches and Christians who pray in tongues.” He added, “We are able to see in the spirit realm and we know when they (Christians) pray in tongues because we see an increase in angelic activity as angels dart across the sky sent on divine assignments.”

Bless the Lord, you His angels, who excel in strength, who do His word, heeding the voice of His word (Psalm 103:20).

Let this encourage you. This should motivate you to intercede and pray with greater focus and tenacity. Think about the magnitude prayer has on God’s Kingdom as angels are commissioned to go on your behalf when you pray. Could this be one of the reasons the apostle Paul encouraged us to labor in prayer and to pray without ceasing? (See Colossians 4:12 and 1 Thessalonians 5:17.)

Let us be ever mindful that prayer is spiritual warfare at the highest level. The enemy will fight you at every turn and try to impede the angels moving on your behalf in response to your prayers.

It happened in Daniel 10:12-13:

Then he said to me, “Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia.”

This is why we pray all the more; we don’t stop. We persevere and pray until we get a breakthrough, until we get the full assurance of God’s purpose being accomplished. Every time we pray believing prayers that are God’s will, we know God hears us. First John 5:14-15 tells us:

Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.

I love the Amplified Version of James 5:16: “…The heartfelt and persistent prayer of a righteous man (believer) can accomplish much [when put into action and made effective by God—it is dynamic and can have tremendous power].”

As a result, much is accomplished for the Kingdom. This verse reveals that our prayers, when God gets involved, are dynamic and will release tremendous power.
