Prophetic Crisis: Why God’s Calling You to Come Up Higher in This End-Time Hour
A month after the October 7 strikes in Israel and subsequent exposure within the Kansas City movement, Cindy Jacobs convened the 2023 roundtable of the Apostolic Council of Prophetic Elders (ACPE).
It was our 24th year of gathering annually. Cindy opened with a message to the prophets, which you by now are all too familiar with:
And the Lord is saying to His people, COME UP HIGHER!
In the midst of conversation, the true scope of the challenges became clear. Weeping immediately followed. The Lord is continuing to confront His highest level prophets with a clear warning. What has been tolerated can no longer be tolerated. We must come up higher. We must regain basic biblical morality. The prophetic community first.
A year beforehand, in November 2022, the ACPE roundtable sought the Lord for a word for 2023. Psalm 23 was a popular verse. But along with many other prophets, Jolene and I received Jeremiah 23 for 2023. We were relieved to find a number of other ACPE prophets had received the same passage as well. A year ahead of the crisis, a corporate prophetic directive emerged calling for a much-needed course correction.
Reading the passage made me wonder what the prophetic roundtable of Jeremiah’s day looked like when his word was introduced. Probably a lot like ours. Hit the deck! Highlights of Jeremiah 23 (NASB) follow:
1 “Woe to the shepherds who are causing the sheep of My pasture to perish and are scattering them!” declares the Lord.
2…“You have scattered My flock and driven them away, and have not been concerned about them; behold, I am going to call you to account for the evil of your deeds….”
9 As for the prophets: My heart is broken within me, all my bones tremble….
11 “For both prophet and priest are defiled; even in My house I have found their wickedness,” declares the Lord.
13 “Moreover, among the prophets of Samaria I saw an offensive thing: they prophesied by Baal and led My people Israel astray.
14 Also among the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen a horrible thing: the committing of adultery and walking in deceit; and they strengthen the hands of evildoers….
16 …they tell a vision of their own imagination, not from the mouth of the Lord.
17 They keep saying to those who despise Me, ‘The Lord has said, “You will have peace”’; and as for everyone who walks in the stubbornness of his own heart, they say, ‘Disaster will not come on you.’
18 But who has stood in the council of the Lord, that he should see and hear His word? Who has paid attention to His word and listened?
21 I did not send these prophets, but they ran. I did not speak to them, but they prophesied.
22 But if they had stood in My council, then they would have announced My words to My people, and would have turned them back from their evil way and from the evil of their deeds.”
Note Jeremiah’s emphasis in the last sentence. Accessing God’s turnaround anointing, the grace to release repentance and turn a covenant nation back to Him depends on genuinely standing in the council of the Lord with clean hands and a pure heart. That’s how Elijah did it. That’s how David did it. So must we.

X-Out: America’s 9/11
October 7 was Israel’s 9/11. But it was a second “9/11 call” to America as well, especially to the body of Christ. The trumpet blast has been conveying a very clear mandate. Come Up Higher. Because many end-time movements birthed in former seasons are now endangered of being X-ed out.
With this at heart, let’s explore the original trumpet message sounded by the Lord on 9-11-01, as a potential X-out of our nation suddenly awakened America to a new reality. Our story begins four years beforehand, in a castle, when the original X-out word was first released.
In 1997, Mike and Cindy Jacobs gathered the top-tiered leaders of the prayer movement to the Glen Eyrie Castle in Colorado Springs for a private strategic roundtable. Cindy introduced the warning word about the X-out of our nation for the very first time. She also shared the prophetic perception by Dutch Sheets that the X could be transformed into a bridal canopy—representing God’s covenant covering being recovered and restored to the land.
A posterboard map of Cindy’s vision was by her side, with red yarn forming the X. Seattle was connected to Miami and San Diego to New York City. The X converged over Kansas City.
Some prophetic words carry no weight. Cindy’s word hit the room with such gravitational force that travailing prayer became the only option. Cries and groanings formed a corporate symphony that crescendoed, diminished, and surged again for almost an hour. By the Spirit of God, the main hall of the castle had turned into a house of prayer, a Presence-saturated portal to the end times.
At a point of breakthrough, the Spirit of God orchestrated a prophetic action to demonstrate what He desires to bring forth. Cindy felt led to launch a procession, circling the hall counterclockwise to symbolize the reversal of the X and the curses it represented. I recall freemasonry being strongly emphasized as one of the curses needing a divine reversal. But we literally walked out the turnaround the Lord desired to grant our nation.
Healing pioneers John and Paula Sandford were asked to take the lead, representing the mothers and fathers of the movement. Joining behind them were the youngest faces in the crowd, myself included. As both a next-generation leader and a descendant of the Pilgrims, my presence bore witness to America’s covenantal legacy with God.
“The curse is only lifted,” Cindy exclaimed, “as God turns the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to the fathers!”
X marked the spot. And the spot was moving. It was time to move with it. We together lifted the posterboard display of our X-ed out nation and began circling the Great Hall. The crowd of leaders fell in behind. Loud cries echoed throughout the hall for the curse to be reversed and covenant with Christ restored.
As the procession started, I somehow knew the vision being demonstrated by this prophetic action was about to become a lifelong pursuit.
As the old adage goes: God loves you, and Cindy Jacobs has a plan for your life.
A Name, Erased
Can a nation be X-ed out? Israel was. God’s covenant covering was completely removed and, for thousands of years, the country simply ceased to exist. It wasn’t until 1948, after the Holocaust, that Israel became the first nation ever to be literally born again!
The Bible makes clear that movements of the body of Christ can be X-ed out too. In Revelation, John the apostle conveyed a sobering warning that the church of Sardis faced an impending X-out:
…I know your deeds, that you have a name that you are alive, and yet you are dead. Be constantly alert, and strengthen the things that remain, which were about to die; for I have not found your deeds completed in the sight of My God. So remember what you have received and heard; and keep it, and repent… (Revelation 3:1-3 NASB).
Could it be that America is like Sardis today? Is our reputation greater than our true substance? Are we squandering our inheritance, trading our liberty and blessing for open defiance of God’s heart?
Then if you are not alert, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come to you. But you have a few people in [America—I mean] Sardis who have not soiled their garments; and they will walk with Me in white, for they are worthy. The one who overcomes will be clothed the same way…and I will not erase his name from the book of life… (Revelation 3:3-5 NASB).
There it is. The missing ones. Blank spaces on the unfurled scroll where people, churches, ministries, and even nations were once inscribed. Invited to greatness in Christ, many were seduced away to the extent they actually chose their own X-out.
I saw this process once in a vision. A prophetic word was written on the title page of a Bible, with two names signed beneath it. I saw the hand of the Lord erase one of the names and write another in its place. The Lord then spoke to me that America was in danger of forfeiting her covenant destiny and that He could easily raise up another to nation fulfill what He had called us to accomplish.
