Defeat Satan’s Mind Games

His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire (2 Peter 1:3-4).

My identity is now the reality of who Christ is.

I have escaped sinful desires through the blood of Jesus. For me to partner with anything else simply isn’t the truth and I’m believing a lie. So if I identify something in my thought process that doesn’t line up with the truth found in His Word or with who I am or the nature of Christ (because that’s who I am), I ask, “Lord, would You expose what lie I’m believing?” And then I replace that lie with the truth and attach myself to it.

I don’t attach myself to brokenness or familiar tendencies or old ways of operating because that’s not who I am anymore. The Word says I died and that I’ve been raised up with Him (see Rom. 6:4). So if I’ve been crucified with Christ, the old Sarah no longer exists. That’s a dead person. That nature doesn’t exist in me any longer and now I operate out of who He is. Christ in me is the hope of glory (see Col. 1:27), and He is pure, holy, blameless, and above reproach. I’ve entered into that reality through His blood (see 1 John 4:17). That’s my identity now.

It’s vital to know and believe this until it becomes your reality. Refuse to change the subject on these things because it will shift your perspective into hope and truth resulting in happy hearts and happy prophets. That’s when you become the answer, the solution—that’s who Christ is in you. My most wonderful mentor and friend Katherine Ruonala often says, “Whenever anyone came to Jesus, He always manifested Himself as the answer.” If someone comes to me with an open invitation to their pity party, I’m not going to attend. Instead, I’m going to call them up higher into the reality of who they are with a word of encouragement that brings freedom and healing to their hearts.

The world needs Jesus. All of creation groans in eager expectation for the sons and daughters of God to be revealed (see Rom. 8:19). We don’t have the luxury to operate in any other way than who He says we are. It’s time to grow up.

The enemy will try his best to rob you in your mind of that reality. The Word even tells us that he was a liar from the beginning (see John 8:44). He’s very sneaky—just like in the garden with Adam and Eve, he came and deceived them with a lie (see Gen. 3:4).

He might come and say, “You know what, maybe you’re not pure and holy. Maybe that’s for somebody else. That little temptation and habit that keeps coming up in you, that’s who you are.” Instead of coming into agreement with that lie and behaving accordingly, you identify it and say, “No, that’s rubbish, that’s a lie. That’s not who the Word says I am. It is written that I am victorious over that behavior because He’s victorious. All authority in heaven and earth was given to Him and He gave it to me (see Matt. 28:18); therefore, I don’t have to succumb to that old habit. I live in freedom and victory!”

Remember: We have all authority. That means all authority and that there’s nothing left over. The only authority that the enemy has is what we give to him. If the enemy is lying to you and you’re believing it, that’s the only power he has to control or manipulate you or try to change what you think about your future. Don’t give it the time of day. It’s like swatting a fly. In the height of summer in Australia, the flies like to hang around. Growing up here you learn pretty quickly not to tolerate them and how to get rid of them! You don’t let them bother you, you don’t let them hang around. You certainly don’t let them land and crawl around on you. You swat the fly until you get rid of it and pretty quickly you get good at swatting them.

We treat a lie the same way. When it comes you don’t let it find a place to land or let it hang around for three days. You recognize it and say, “I know how to get rid of you!” You don’t need to go to another conference to hype yourself back into freedom; you actually need to apply the Word of God like the man who built his house upon the rock, not sinking sand (see Matt. 7:24-27). Sinking sand could include the opinions of man, our emotions, or how anointed we feel today. It’s irrelevant. The rock is the Word of God and what He says about you—that’s what we build our lives upon.
