How Christian Witchcraft Silences Prophecy

“‘But I promise you, no weapon meant to hurt you will succeed, and you will refute every accusing word spoken against you. This promise is the inheritance of Yahweh’s servants, and their vindication is from me,’ says Yahweh” (Isaiah 54:17 TPT).

I could feel their words, but I didn’t know what it was at the time.

It was as if my mind was being bombarded by an invisible assault of demonic chatter and I didn’t know how to stop it. I wanted to give up and never get out of bed. I said to God, “I’m done. I am never prophesying again!”

We had just delivered a warning word to our church leadership, and it didn’t go down well at all. After a week of Zoom calls and being corrected and called judgmental prophets, we were exhausted. What was I experiencing? Christian witchcraft. But hang on, isn’t that an oxymoron? Yes exactly. Even Christians can partner with the accuser if they are unaware. How do we do this? Anytime we engage in insecurity and out of fear toward people we can very easily start prophesying the enemy’s lies over people and places. Proverbs 18:21 says that “death and life are in the power of the tongue,” so if we can speak and prophesy life, then we can also prophesy death, right? Unfortunately, yes, and as prophetic voices, we must understand this possibility.

I have had witches curse me and unbelievers say nasty things to me, but it has never been worse than the warfare that comes from Christians operating in witchcraft. Prophets can be the biggest offenders at this! I’ll never forget a few years ago where I was feeling off, Christy and I were fighting endlessly for days, kids were waking up with nightmares, I was feeling sick, both of us were mentally under fire and discouraged, and our home was in chaos. We kept having doors suddenly shut in our faces out of nowhere, and sudden roadblocks appeared in our path. So, I was making coffee one morning when I saw a clear vision of two prophetic leaders I knew sitting at a café gossiping about us and judging our hearts in a very hurtful way. Then I saw them messaging other leaders in the Church and warning them about us simply out of that territorial and insecure spirit. After I had the vision, I prayed because I was thinking, Was that real? That very same day I happened to be on Instagram when a post appeared in my newsfeed of those two leaders. They were at a coffee shop three days earlier “catching up.” Right away, I knew God was showing me the origin of the witchcraft so I could pray and break it in the spirit. Isaiah 22:22 says,

And I will place on his shoulder the key of the house of David. He shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open (ESV).

Witchcraft and Hired Guns

The other way the enemy has sought to shut down your voice in this season that God is increasing it is by assailing you with witchcraft and chatter. This is what I like to call “Jezebel’s hired guns” because the main purpose is still to shut down your voice, but the Jezebel spirit will employ witchcraft prayers and chatter to come at you from all angles until you throw in the towel.

Anytime you are coming into something new, it’s not unusual to suddenly sense that there are things swirling in the atmosphere around you. The enemy will find whomever he can to speak against you, judge you, and even prophesy things against you that didn’t originate in God’s heart. Often, the fruit of undealt with assignments of witchcraft are: wanting to give up, deep discouragement, complete defeat, a scattered mind (unable to get revelation the way you normally would), writer’s or revelatory creative block, mental torment, and even physical symptoms, too.

In this season, discernment has been going through the roof as God is done with the immaturity of witchcraft in the Body of Christ. He is exposing sources of sabotage and hidden plots and slander that keep trying to take people down a few notches. Have your dreams been revealing this?  Just remember your best defense is to break off and cancel their words, bless them, then move on. You don’t need to hang out in this zone forever or make a full-time job out of knowing who is against you. Break it and move on.

Copycat Prophets and Casting Pearls

I received a call from a well-known prophetic friend, one day, who was going through a rough season. This person told me they were feeling dry and out of touch with God and hadn’t been receiving words from Him like they used to, and so I prayed for them and encouraged them. Then they said, “What is God speaking to you about right now?”

Very excitedly I shared a word I was in the middle of writing. “Oh, my goodness!” they exclaimed in reply. “That’s amazing!”

Later that day I was on social media, and I saw a word from this individual with the topic and content I had just shared with them earlier. I couldn’t believe what I was reading. I have been naïve and trusted most people. I have always worn my heart on my sleeve, and so this was a good lesson in being careful what information I let people know and what pearls I was letting people trample on and steal.

Insecurity runs rampant in the prophetic movement when people aren’t mature in their identity, and so they steal, lie, squash, and usurp to stay on top. They become copycat prophets when they run out of oil and think they can steal yours to keep up appearances, but sooner or later it catches up with them.

At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise ones, how- ever, took oil in jars along with their lamps (Matthew 25:1–4).

My advice to you is to stay genuine. Don’t be like the foolish virgins. Stay full and stay authentic. Stay pure and stay true.
