What the Holy Spirit Wants You to Know

One of the most profound things about my experiences with Jesus, especially during my 1992 visitation when I passed on the operating table, was the many things that I learned with Him that I did not previously understand. I thought that I had knowledge of the Bible and spiritual realities, but I soon found out that I was lacking in some areas. The following passage of Scripture has become my template or road map, if you will, for what I believe the Spirit of God wants everyone to know and fully understand. Please trust me on this—there is so much that we think we understand about the Holy Spirit and spiritual things. After spending time with Jesus and the Holy Spirit, I was sent back with an understanding of the heavenly realms that I did not previous know. In some cases, I was shown things that I knew but I did not want to accept as true. It was sobering to learn that we are absolutely desperate without the help of the Holy Spirit. If we are to learn how to live in two worlds and get our prayers answered, we are going to have to learn the things that the Spirit wants us to know. Here is what I live by. When I was sent back from the dead, I knew that the whole second chapter of 1 Corinthians was to be my template for visitation and prayer. I have included a portion of it here.

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets. No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us. When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths. But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means. Those who are spiritual can evaluate all things, but they themselves cannot be evaluated by others. For, “Who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?” But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:9-16 NLT).

1. The Spirit searches all things.

The Holy One has all knowledge and wisdom available to Him. He will access the treasuries and share it with you.

2. The Spirit searches the deep things of God.

There are things that you do not know. What is even more profound is the fact that there are things that are yours but you do not even know to ask for them. He will tell you about them and give you faith to ask and receive.

3. The spirit of the man, which is inside, knows the things about that man.

Your spirit is the “real you” and knows everything about you. This is the spiritual part of you that lives forever.

4. No one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.

The Holy Spirit is the One from whom you want counsel. He understands the things of God and will make them available to you.

5. We have not received the spirit of the world.

The “spirit of the world” is the spirit of the anti-Christ. The “god of this world” is satan. We have not received this wrong, fearful, evil spirit of the world. Jesus said, “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” (Luke 11:13).

6. We have received the Spirit who is from God.

The Holy Spirit was given in fulfillment of what Jesus, the prophet Joel, and John the Baptist spoke. The apostle Paul told Timothy, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Tim. 1:7).

7. We know, by the Spirit, the things that have been freely given to us by God.

The Spirit of God gives us revelation and empowers us to be witnesses of Him. The apostle Paul told the Corinthian church, “My speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God” (1 Cor. 2:4-5).

What the Holy Spirit Wants to Teach You

1. It is not in words that man’s wisdom teaches.

Most of the time, man’s wisdom is just from observance and not from the place of the absolute. In Heaven, the wisdom is always absolute. Wisdom lives there, alongside absolute truth. The Book of Proverbs explains that wisdom is a person. We need God’s wisdom that came down from Heaven—Jesus Christ.

2. It is words that the Holy Spirit teaches.

The words that the Holy Spirit teaches are from the Father. He does not speak on His own accord but clearly speaks what the Father tells Him to speak (see John 16:12-15). The Holy One desires to coach you into the supernatural world. The Holy Spirit knows that the supernatural is the natural of Heaven. I know He will lead you step by step into the reality, the truth of His world. Jesus said, “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. But there are some of you who do not believe” (John 6:63-64).

3. Words comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

We join together Spirit-revealed truths with Spirit-revealed words (see 1 Cor. 2:13). It’s hard to explain something that you know as familiar but that is not familiar to those receiving your message. Your words have to be revelatory for people to grasp the truths. That is why the Spirit of God communicates with your spirit. It is transferred spiritually. Your inner man receives the enlightenment. The mind may not comprehend these spiritual revelations, but your heart rejoices. Eventually, the understanding becomes mentally comprehensible as you continually renew it by the written Word of God!

4. The natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God.

Most people do not understand the “born-again” experience. When you are born again, you are a brand new creation and your natural self has been made into a very spiritually active species. You cannot accept anything from another realm if you are not enabled to receive the spiritual broadcast from Heaven. You are able to be a good receiver when you are transformed. The signal and its message are placed into your spirit. But if you are spiritually dead because you are in your “natural man” condition, even though the signals from Heaven are broadcast they are not received because you need that new equipment inside of you (see 1 Cor. 2:14).

5. The words of the Spirit are foolishness to the natural man; he cannot know them because they are spiritually discerned.

The world and the natural man are not going to participate in the supernatural realm. The Spirit invites you into His realm on His terms. You must be born again and filled with the Holy Spirit to encounter God in His realm.

6. The man who is spiritual judges all things.

The spiritual man is discerning and can clearly see to separate between the true and the false. This is because he yields to the Spirit of truth and holiness. He can rightly divide with the sword of the Spirit, the Word of God (see Heb. 4:12).

7. No one rightly judges the spiritual man.

A spiritual man makes judgments about all things by the Spirit.

But the spiritual man tries all things [he examines, investigates, inquires into, questions, and discerns all things], yet is himself to be put on trial and judged by no one [he can read the meaning of everything, but no one can properly discern or appraise or get an insight into him] (1 Corinthians 2:15 AMPC).

You cannot figure out a spiritual person with your carnal mind. Furthermore, an unregenerate person in the world cannot comprehend or see into a spiritual person or relate to his or her world.

8. No one has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him.

The Lord does not need our instruction. We do not know His mind unless He lets us know it! The prophet Isaiah asks:

Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord, or as His counselor has taught Him? With whom did He take counsel, that instruction might be given Him? Who taught Him the path of justice and taught Him knowledge and showed Him the way of understanding? (Isaiah 40:13-14 AMPC)

9. We have the mind of Christ because of the revelation of the Spirit.

It is really good news to know that the Holy Spirit can clearly give us the mind of Jesus. We have revelation and enjoy the walk in the Spirit as we live and experience visitation in prayer.I am so overcome by the goodness of our God. When I was with Jesus on several occasions, He allowed me to know His heart about certain areas. One of those areas was in the area of God’s will. He showed me some things that will help you immensely.

I was taken to a place where I saw the same scenario as the setting of the Bible story of the man at the pool of Bethesda. However, I saw a person in a wheelchair instead. The Lord explained to me that the man at the pool of Bethesda did not know the One with whom he was speaking. He was just telling Jesus his story and wanting someone to put him in the pool when an angel randomly and miraculously stirred the water from time to time. Jesus explained to me that this man did not discern his day of visitation at first. Jesus showed me how people ask for things according to their own knowledge or lack of knowledge, in some cases, of the will of God for their lives. Jesus said that people’s failure to understand His will for their lives often limits Him on how He can deal with a person’s prayer request. This is because faith is required from all of us as believers. We cannot please God without faith (see Heb. 11:6).

So Jesus explained that if a person were happy with their situation— in this case, confined to a wheelchair—then He would do nothing about it. This shocked me. However, I do know that we receive from God by faith. Jesus then told me even deeper truths that changed my life forever. Jesus said, “Even if they would just want Me to be a friend to them who could visit with them or do some sort of activity with them, I would do that. This is even though I was willing to heal them the whole time. You see, I am limited by their lack of revelation of who I AM.” Jesus went on to say, “If they asked Me to get them a meal, I would go and get them whatever they wanted. If they asked Me to push them around in the park, I would do it. I would be whatever they asked of Me according to their faith and knowledge of My will.”

This humbled me because many of us are in this situation. We need to discern the will of God in the Word of God by the revelation of the Holy Spirit. He told me that the whole time He was with the man at the pool, He was willing to heal him. How many of us remain in our situation because we do not ask according to the revealed will of God that is found in His Word? Jesus told me that He did not go around making people sick. This was not the Father’s revealed will. Instead, God’s will was stated in the Book of Acts when Peter said, “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him” (Acts 10:38). Not only was it revealed that God desires to heal, but Peter also told us who was really behind the sickness—the devil!
